Double Glazing, how popular are white windows

White uPVC windows are currently used in over 80% of window installations across Northern Ireland, including replacement windows for existing homes, new windows for residential and new-build housing contracts. This is a huge statistic in a highly competitive market place, it’s perceived that – yes – white uPVC windows are still popular, and its popularity is continuing.

THE HISTORY OF WHITE UPVC WINDOWS

White uPVC (unplasticised polyvinyl chloride) windows first became widespread across the United Kingdom in the early 1980s, taking over from the old fashioned aluminium frames, and quickly became known as ‘white gold’ thanks to their increasing popularity.

This new uPVC phenomenon gave homeowners a great opportunity to replace their existing single-glazed, wooden and or aluminium framed windows with hi-tech double-glazing and white uPVC frames for durability and later energy-efficiency.

Though not cheap in those early days, more and more people still wanted to upgrade their homes and this new home improvement made it easy. The sight of white uPVC windows became more and more common across our country. By the turn of the century, it’s been estimated that over three-quarters of all UK properties had had their original windows replaced with new, white uPVC windows.

Now, being well into the 21st century, their popularity is as high as ever and continues to rise, despite stiff competition from coloured and textured uPVC ranges and new, revamped aluminium alternatives. Though a standard colour, white uPVC continues to be the default choice for the majority of homeowners in their quest for a thermally and energy-efficient – and cost-effective – house. This is mainly down to the fact it is the most competitive of all windows on the Market today!
